Reeds in 2008

Happy New Year, everybody. Are you working on those New Year’s resolutions?

I am too busy to wax poetic for my expectations of the new year. Maybe that’s a resolution in itself. Maybe I need to just resolve to take each moment as it comes with no expectations. It’s silly, but that makes me think of the boyfriend in the movie You’ve Got Mail.

Remember the weird reporter, Meg Ryan’s boyfriend? He wrote an article about her losing her book store and poetically referenced her as a “lone reed.” “I am a lone reed….” I am picturing a reed blowing in the wind, strong, but flexible, thriving. Ha! Somehow I don’t think that is me at this stage in my life! (On second thought, I need to reflect on this when I have time. In the intro to one of Max Lucado’s books, he has a great essay on reeds. Hmmmmmmmmmm…..I think I hear God’s voice. I’ll get back to you later on this subject.)

I am already in the process of resetting my priorities and learning to let things go. What is really important? People. People are important. People are the priority. Most of the time. However, I reserve the right to be completely selfish as deemed necessary for my own personal sanity.

I don’t expect to be blogging too much for a while. There are significant changes in my life right now that are more important than my blogging. But, in my selfish me-moments, maybe I will be inspired to write. Meanwhile, I will be checking on my blogging friends.

I don’t really have expectations, but I have hope for this brand new year. After all, isn’t that the most important thing? And, I have hope for you, too, that your year will be full of blessings and that God will grant you wisdom, restoration, or whatever it is that is needed in your lives. I can’t wait to see what He does for us this year! May God bless us all.

Cheryl, go do what you need to do, and do it knowing you’re starting out 2008 with a friend in me always. As am I. Thanks for that.

I’d love to hear about your new things–email me if you can or want to tell me. xoxoxo

  2. Happy New Year, Cheryl!
I love the picture and your posts always give me pause for thought.
I thought of you as we passed through your beautiful city on our way home from St. Louis today. Didn’t think long though….had to concentrate…..your traffic was terrible! We saw 4 accidents in the HOV lane.
Texas drivers love their independence way too much.
