Stranded, Flooded Dog

Today brought terrible flooding to two communities north of us. So far 4 people have perished, two of them precious preschool girls. It is so tragic. The flood waters will continue to rise for another 12 hours, making this a very long night for many people. The news reporters have been out in droves to cover any and every story possible.

For a while this morning, perhaps to bring respite to the tragedy, a local tv station carried live coverage of a dog who was trapped on the roof of a house. For 2 hours a man tried to coax the dog to a section of the roof where he could reach him. He tried everything he could think of to help that dog. But, the dog was so scared, he was running all over the roof, occasionally laying down to rest.

As I watched that crazy black dog running like mad from his rescuer, it struck me how like him I am sometimes when God is trying to help me. I cry out for help, but when God comes, I am too busy being scared to listen and obey. Too busy cowering and running. Jump? No way, God. There is water down there.

How much energy we could save by trusting and obeying!
